Dear Fidelians
The results of the poll are in, and we are happy to announce that we will be remaining in 2038. This will allow for us to continue on with the next plot, with little to no interruption. And speaking of the plot, we’re very eager to reveal what’s to come, but that also entails a few changes.
WHAT’S DIFFERENT
In light of recent events, the Wizengamot has decided to indefinitely suspend the office of Minister of Magic, as well as both the Senior and Junior Undersecretary positions. In their place, the Wizengamot has decided to institute the Tribunal of Magic. The tribunal grants three Chancellors equal power and responsibility that was once delegated to the Minister of Magic, believing this course of action to be in the best interest of the Magical Community. At present, @vina holds one of the positions of Chancellor. The other two seats are currently held in interim by senior members of the Wizengamot (NPC) until the other members can be chosen.
INTERESTED IN BEING A CHANCELLOR?
The vacant Chancellor positions are open to characters that are currently 45 years of age in-game, and also of good moral and social character. You’re welcome to submit your character as a candidate to the Wizengamot (staff) for approval. Assuming this position, you should understand that you are committing yourself to be available to participate in the main upcoming site-wide plots in addition to your (personal) side-plots. A Chancellor that proves to be overly-negligent can be subject to dereliction of their civil duties and removed from office by the Wizengamot.
THE OBLIVIATED
The Ministry has made attempts to contact members of the community that were previously obliviated by order of Ministry decree. However, the standing record of all those names was destroyed prior to Hermione Weasley’s departure from office. Thus, attempts to treat the afflicted have been met with mixed results. Some of the obliviated have been able to have most of their memories restored, yet there is a vast number that had less than stellar results. Many have suffered partial memory restoration, permanent memory loss and in some cases brain damage. Upon learning how they were victimized, some have found themselves fearful and even imbued with hatred against the magical community as a whole.
HERMIONE'S FATE
In the summer of 2038, the Wizengamot held a formal hearing which resulted in the impeachment of Hermione Granger, formerly Hermione Weasley, from the Office of Minister of Magic. Many believe this was in response to the growing number of protests that previous spring. The decree was delivered to Hermione by @potter , whom had been appointed the Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement by the Wizengamot after Ronald Weasley stepped down following his divorce and his ex-wife's hospitalization. A press conference was later held to let the public know why Hermione was no longer holding her position within the Ministry. They were told that she was suffering from an undisclosed illness and would be going to St Mungo's for observation and further treatment. Shortly, after that, the Wizengamot revealed even more changes that the Ministry of Magic would be undergoing.
THE PLOT
In the summer of 2038, the United Kingdom finds itself attempting to re-embrace the movement towards Magical and Non-magical Integration. The Ministry of Magic has restructured itself and is seeking to make amends with the non-Magical community, as well as heal from within. And while many welcome the attempt to return to normalcy, there are those that have a different agenda altogether. There are those that take issue with the Integration itself, feeling that the world was better off with the Statute of Secrecy in effect. And even more, there are those that subscribe to the belief that having degenerates of dirty blood (like Hermione Weasley) and savage beasts (such as Lavinia Dragov) is what will ultimately lead the magical community to ruin.
Perniciem is a group of anarchists, muggle and magical alike that have come to the eerie conclusion that it may possibly take their combined forces to drive the two communities apart. Naturally, one can expect frequent bouts of infighting from this group. Yet, they do share a single goal. Are they able to see eye-to-eye long enough to drive the Magical world back into a shroud of secrecy?
Ìonacht is a group of purists that have begun to grow in popularity, due to their ability to point at the previous administration for the current state of affairs in the Magical community. They bare a distinct hatred of Muggleborn wizards and witches, and even some resentment to magical creatures being in power. They fear that continuing to embrace Muggleborn and welcoming muggles will only dilute the magical culture (and the magic itself) that remains.
Should anyone wish to have their characters be part of either of these groups instead of their current member group, just post in the sorting and we'll take care of it.
NPC Interim-Chancellors
(TO BE REPLACED ONCE PLAYED CHARACTERS TAKE THEIR PLACE)
Name: Brinley Jernigan
Age: 84
Occupation: Senior Member of the Wizengamot, former member of the ICOW, former lawyer in the International Magical Cooperation Office.
Description: A seasoned politician, and one that has consistently been whispered in the running for Minister for Magic. It's a position he has yet to pursue. He was a popular choice, believing that he can help guide the Ministry on the path of redemption, a calming selection for the majority of the magical community. He is a first generation, half-blood wizard, his paternal ancestors being of pureblood heritage. He's also viewed as a familiar face to other magical governments and will likely restore some integrity to the British Ministry.
Name: Loida Thurlow
Age: 58
Occupation: Member of the Wizengamot, former Head of Magical Law Enforcement, former Hitwitch, former Auror
Description: A true stickler for lawful order. Was quite the terror to the magical underworld for most of her career. She stands just over four feet tall, but has been herald to be almost as good an auror as Alastor Moody. During her time on the Wizengamot, she has been seen as a firm proponent of order. She's notoriously known for speaking her mind, and was even heard to speak out against what she viewed as preposterous decrees from the Minister's Office. She has not been a fan of the act to repeal the Statute of Secrecy, believing it opened their community up to more chaos than order. Still, the law is the law, and she seeks to see it carried out to the letter.
