"Shhhh. I've almost got it." In his defence, he did almost have it. Well, he almost had something. A disaster, probably, but that was okay. Trial and error, baby! "This place is gonna sparkle, Wills," he said, his words muffled by the three pieces of pre-cut electrical tape stuck to his bottom lip for easy access. In his mind, things were going perfectly. Safety precautions were for dweebs who were not professionals. This was his business. He was Electrical Man. The Thor of his time. Taj whomst? "Just a few more wires, a flip of a switch, and your eyeballs are going to burn out, it'll be so bright in here," Max had enough confidence in his abilities to power a small nation. Just touching the walls would have generated enough electricity to light Willow's house for at least a decade. Tragically, it was mostly unearned. He was very good with electrics. Max could tell you everything you never wanted to know about currents and voltages and had a knack for taking apart or putting together any machine that needed some tinkering. If LOLA SKIPPER didn't yell at him every time he tried to fix the short in one of the switches, his soundboard at work would be in a million pieces. Lola! Why did you never let him have any fun?! Mentally, he knew exactly how the job of wiring up a new light for Willow's kitchen should have been done. In practice, like in almost every other aspect of his life, he was a monstrous fool. His confidence dropkicked safety out a window and replaced it with sheer arrogance. The consequences of that were a lesson he was taught over and over again but never bothered to learn. Basically, Max was a dope. A very smart absolute, honest to god, blatant idiot. Max was standing on Willow's counter, after deciding a proper ladder was super unnecessary, with his hands deftly spinning wires together. "Alright, just gotta test it," the worst thing he could imagine was wasting time by taping and capping everything before he knew the connections were solid. "Flip the switch." He could feel the hesitation radiating off of his friend, who knew, from years of experience, exactly how things would play out if she did what he said. "It's fine, Wills. It'll work." Max looked back at Willow and gave her a big grin that was meant to show confidence and offer comfort. With his track record, it probably made the whole thing more unsettling. "Trust me." Foolish. As soon as the switch flipped, Max realized instantly and painfully that he'd neglected to remove his hand from the situation. The resulting shock caused an involuntary muscle spasm, not to mention a shrill screech, and Max ripped his hand away from the circuit at warp speed. The force of this movement knocked him off balance and sent him tumbling onto the kitchen floor below with a heavy thud. He laid there, flat on his back and staring up at the ceiling. The perfect position for considering life choices, if he were that sort of fella. He wasn't, though. Max gave a thumbs up and managed the best smile he could. "It works."
