It was easier and easier to get Charlie ready for an outing the older she got. She remembered the first time she took her baby out, just wanting to leave the house, wanting to leave Seamus’ grumpy mood about the baby. It had been a disaster - she had barely been in the park when she realized she was missing sunscreen and baby formula, and therefore she had returned home exhausted, tired, and with a crying baby too soon feeling defeated. Of course, the journeys got easier the more she did them, and soon there was little that they needed anymore.
The days of strollers, diaper bags, and a million things were gone. Instead, now at the bright age of ten, her daughter just needed a water bottle and some sunscreen, which was easy to keep in her purse. Aoife thought about this as she put the sunscreen back in her bag after spraying her daughter and herself covering them both in a good amount to be safe for the day.
Charlie was growing up so fast, too fast. She loved her all the more, because of how she was growing. There were so many times she reminded her of her father, and the way they had bonded over the past four years made her heart swell. Charlie was smart, sometimes snarky, and so kind to those around her. They were all her favorite traits of her father, what had made her initially want to be his friend and fall for him, and all the traits that she still made her want to be his friend now that life was so different.
“Ready to go kiddo?” she asked ruffling her hair a little bit and then she grinned up at her nodding with excitement. Aoife held out one hand, and then the other as Charlie took them both. She was still at the age where she liked and trusted Aoife, and this one day was going to break her heart. Aoife smiled, shook their arms, before apparating to the zoo and the carnival.
“Do you see them? Do you see them!?” Charlie’s eyes scanned the crowd looking for Ryan and Dimitri. Charlie had meet Dimitri when they had been invited to a friends and family barbeque. It was a little overwhelming for Aoife, to be honest, but Charlie had made a new friend in the process. Not every parent had weekdays off, but there was something nice about managing your own shop and a healer having an irregular schedule. So, when Dimitri and Charlie wanted to go to the zoo, Ryan had volunteered to bring Dimitri and meet them at the zoo.
Aoife searched her eyes too, finding Ryan and Dimitri almost as soon as Charlie did. Her daughter started to pull them towards the duo. “Dimitri!” her voice rang through the crowd as she tried to pull Aoife faster towards them. “Dimitri!” she took him in a big hug grinning as bright as the sun. “Hi Ryan,” she added turning to him, but not nearly as excited as she was to see Dimitri, her new best friend.
“Well then, I think all we have to decide now is what area we want to go to first?” There were so many activities they could partake in. Aoife had already gotten a map from online, so she pulled it out now. “The options, dear children, are a) the aquarium, or, b) the petting zoo, or c) the nocturnal hut.” She was certain they would want to go to them all, but what would they adventure to first?
