He spun around, both hands carefully holding beers that the barkeep had overfilled, and was at the table when Taegan opened her mouth to say something. "They aren't gonna fire you," Luca interjected before she could put her thoughts into the air. His words were firm and calm, trying to convey that he believed them entirely. He wasn't sure if they were true, but he felt like they should be. Taegan lost her cool on suspects more than she ought to and, as a result, tended to hover in a bubble of "I could get fired for that." Luca hoped she didn't. Not only did he want to see his friends succeed, but Taegan was very good at her job and they worked well when they were assigned together. That being said, he'd seen her go off on people in the heat of everything and it could be terrifying. "They'd be idiots if they did," he sat down in the seat opposite his friend and slid her beer across the table. The Ministry was filled with idiots who would be happy to throw someone under the bus to avoid bad publicity. The people who got fired and the people who deserved it rarely seemed to overlap. "Look at all the good work you've done lately. Your name in the Prophet, making people look good..." he trailed off, taking a sip of his beer as he tried to gather more thoughts. She could get fired. She really could. Luca sighed softly before steeling himself again. He didn't bring her out for drinks so he could say, "yeah, bro, you're toast." He ran the palm of his hand down the side of his glass. When Luca didn't know what to say, he had a habit of finding things to do with his hands to calm himself. The cold and wet of the glass centered him again. “You’re good at your job. They aren’t going to fire you for going off on a bad guy.” If he pushed away the nagging “they absolutely could” in his brain, he might be better at convincing his friend that her career was safe. “Besides,” Luca shot her a grin. “They’d have to go through me first.”
